Odisha braces for heavy monsoon showers today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts for 29 districts.
Nine districts face orange warnings, while 21 districts remain under yellow alerts.
Morning heat gave way to afternoon downpours, with thunderstorms and lightning striking several northern and southern districts. The regional weather centre warned of intense rainfall in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Bhadrak.
Officials confirmed that tomorrow the entire state will remain under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, with Koraput likely to experience heavy rainfall. In the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, cloudy skies and intermittent showers will persist for the next six days.
The heavy rain alert emphasises the need for preparedness as Odisha enters a critical monsoon phase. Authorities urged residents to remain cautious, especially in vulnerable districts, as weather conditions intensify.
