Rourkela police carried out a major operation on Saturday morning against the accused involved in the brutal Sector-7 murder case.
Officers engaged in an encounter near Jhirpani forest, where two prime suspects were injured and later admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital. Three other associates were arrested from different parts of the city, bringing the total number of accused in custody to five.
Police identified the two prime suspects as Sushant Nayak alias Nanda and Chinu Haripa. Both were linked to the killing of Tufan Bindhani of Rameshwar Palli, who was murdered with sharp weapons behind a school in Sector-6 earlier this week. The incident stemmed from a dispute during Raja festival celebrations that escalated into violence.
During the encounter, the accused opened fire on police, prompting officers to retaliate. Investigators recovered two axes, one farsa, a pistol with a magazine, one live round, two empty shells, and three mobile phones from the arrested men.
The three associates arrested were identified as Rohit Mukhi (32), Rohit Haripa (23), and Johnson Nag (26). Police confirmed that all five accused have multiple criminal cases registered against them.
