The Odisha Vigilance has arrested Umakant Samantaray, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur, following the unearthing of a massive wealth accumulation disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Samantaray was taken into custody and will be presented before the Special Judge, Vigilance Court in Sambalpur. The arrest follows extensive simultaneous searches conducted by Vigilance sleuths across multiple properties linked to the officer.
What the Raids Uncovered
During the searches, investigators discovered a staggering cache of movable and immovable properties that Samantaray allegedly failed to account for satisfactorily:

Real Estate Empire: Four multi-storeyed buildings (two in Bhubaneswar, one in Puri, and one additional location) alongside a luxury 3-BHK flat.

Land Holdings: Thirty high-value plots strategically located across prime areas.

Valuables & Finances: Approximately 300 grams of pure gold and bank deposits totalling ₹36.78 lakhs.

Vehicles: High-end four-wheelers and other lifestyle assets.
The Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station has registered a formal case (Case No. 18/2026) under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is currently underway to trace additional financial trails and potential benami properties.
