Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the Odisha government will provide free education from Kindergarten (KG) to Postgraduate (PG) level, marking a major step toward inclusive development.

The announcement came during celebrations of the BJP government’s second anniversary in the state.

Majhi said the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on students and families, especially those from economically weaker sections. He declared that Odisha will become the first state in India to implement such a comprehensive free education policy. “The government has decided to introduce fee-free education from KG to PG. This will support all students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds,” he said.

The Chief Minister criticised the previous BJD government for failing to provide basic amenities during its 24-year tenure. He said the earlier administration neglected rural development and could not ensure electricity, drinking water, or road connectivity to every village. Majhi asserted that his government has bridged these gaps through the Mission PoWaR programme, focusing on power, water, and roads.

Reflecting on two years of governance, Majhi described his administration as a “people’s government” that works directly for citizens’ progress. He said the double-engine government has delivered a double impact, implementing 121 schemes that contribute to building a prosperous Odisha.

Majhi reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and empowerment through education, calling the free education initiative a transformative step for the state’s youth.
