IPS officer Charan Singh Meena has formally assumed charge as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Northern Range.
On Thursday morning, Meena first sought blessings at Maa Samaleswari temple before taking charge from outgoing IG Himanshu Kumar Lal at noon. He thanked the Odisha Government for entrusting him with the responsibility.
Speaking to the media after assuming office, Meena outlined his priorities: maintaining law and order, controlling crime, ensuring women and child safety, and taking strict action against illegal narcotics trade. He also stressed the need to strengthen police capacity to tackle cybercrime, which he described as one of the biggest challenges today.
Meena said police personnel will be trained in technical skills, while public awareness campaigns will be intensified. He assured that the police will remain accessible, sensitive and accountable to citizens.
Seeking cooperation from the media and the people of Sambalpur, Meena pledged to maintain peace and work towards building a crime‑free society in the region.
