Pre-monsoon rain intensified across Odisha on June 12, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue thunderstorm and heavy rain alerts for multiple districts.
The department placed five districts under an orange warning and eighteen districts under a yellow alert.
According to the forecast, Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Cuttack will witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The IMD cautioned residents in these districts to remain vigilant as strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 km per hour may accompany showers.
Twelve districts, including the five under orange warning, face a heightened risk of intense rainfall. The remaining eighteen districts are under yellow alert, with predictions of lightning and moderate showers. Pre-monsoon activity has already gripped several regions, signalling the onset of unstable weather conditions.
Authorities urged people to exercise caution during outdoor activities and avoid vulnerable areas prone to flooding or lightning strikes. The IMD emphasised that pre-monsoon showers often intensify unpredictably, making preparedness essential., Heavy Rain Predicted in Five Districts, IMD Issues Orange Warning
