A third merchant vessel carrying Indian crew members has reportedly come under attack in Gulf waters as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to intensify.

According to preliminary information, an incident involving a commercial ship was reported off the coast of Oman near Shinas Port on Thursday. The Embassy of India in Oman confirmed that it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with local authorities to gather more details.

All Crew Members Safe, Says Initial Report

Sources familiar with the matter identified the vessel as Jalveer, a Guinea-Bissau-flagged tanker. Initial reports indicate that all crew members onboard are safe.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of Indian seafarers working on international shipping routes in one of the world’s most sensitive maritime regions.

Third Incident Involving Indian Crew in Days

The latest episode comes after two similar incidents involving Indian-crewed vessels earlier this week.

On Wednesday, the tanker Settebello, carrying 24 Indian crew members, was attacked off the coast of Oman. While 21 crew members were rescued, three Indian sailors were later confirmed dead.

Earlier, another vessel, Marivex, was reportedly targeted by US forces over suspicions related to the Iranian oil trade. All 24 Indian crew members aboard that tanker were rescued safely.

The repeated incidents have heightened fears over maritime security in the Gulf region as military tensions continue to escalate.

Iran-US Conflict Triggers Maritime Concerns

The attacks come amid renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran.

The two countries have moved dangerously close to a broader military confrontation following a series of missile and drone exchanges. Regional security concerns have also affected international shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor.

According to reports, American forces have disabled multiple vessels and redirected several others as part of enforcement measures linked to ongoing regional tensions.

India Condemns Attacks on Commercial Shipping

India has strongly expressed concern over attacks on merchant vessels carrying Indian nationals.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the attack on the tanker Settebello and reiterated the country’s call for peace and stability in the region.

In its statement, the MEA emphasized that attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable and called for the immediate restoration of safe and uninterrupted maritime navigation.

The ministry also urged all sides to pursue diplomatic solutions and work toward de-escalation to prevent further loss of life.

Safety of Indian Seafarers a Growing Concern

Thousands of Indian sailors work aboard international cargo ships and oil tankers operating across the Gulf region. As military tensions rise, their safety has become an increasing concern for both Indian authorities and families back home.

The Indian government continues to coordinate with regional authorities and diplomatic missions to ensure the welfare of Indian nationals affected by the conflict.
