In a significant push towards green mobility and skill development in Odisha’s southern districts, Hon’ble Minister for Industry, Skill Development and Technical Education, Sampad Chandra Swain, today laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle Technology Excellence Centre at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Mathili, Malkangiri.
The centre, to be developed at a cost of ₹4.8 crore, aims to equip local youth with specialised training in electric vehicle technology, aligning with India’s growing EV ecosystem and the state’s industrial aspirations.
During the same visit, the Minister also inaugurated key infrastructure upgrades at the institute, including an Engineering Drawing Laboratory, an Online Classroom, and a Conference Hall. These facilities are expected to significantly strengthen teaching quality and institutional capacity at Mathili ITI.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, Minister Swain took stock of the academic and training activities of ITI Mathili, ITI Malkangiri, and the Government Polytechnic, Malkangiri. Principals of the institutions presented detailed updates on ongoing programmes, while the District Skill Development and Employment Officer briefed the gathering on various skill enhancement initiatives underway in the district.
The Minister later reviewed the industrial scenario of Malkangiri district. Senior officials from the District Industries Centre, the Malkangiri DIPA team, and IDCO participated in the discussion. Emphasising the need for a robust industrial ecosystem, Sri Swain directed officials to intensify efforts in skill development and create an enabling environment for industry growth in the region.
Koraput MLA Raghuram Machha and Malkangiri MLA Narasingh Madkami were present during the Minister’s visit, underscoring the bipartisan support for developmental initiatives in the area.
The establishment of the EV Technology Excellence Centre marks a forward-looking step for Malkangiri, a district with significant tribal population, by linking technical education with emerging clean-energy job opportunities and industrial development.
