Tension gripped Bargarh district after a woman died nearly a month following a cesarean delivery at a private hospital.
The deceased, identified as Shrusti Prabha Pradhan, was admitted to Purohit General Hospital on May 13 for childbirth. Her husband, Purna Chandra Sahu, a constable from Hatisar village, alleged that medical negligence during the surgery caused her death.
Sahu claimed that doctors accidentally cut her urinary bladder during the cesarean procedure, leading to excessive bleeding and severe complications. He said the family was not informed about the injury and was instead asked to arrange blood for transfusion before she was referred to VIMSAR, Burla. Doctors there reportedly told the family that a uterine infection developed after the bladder was cut and attached to the uterus.
Shrusti’s condition worsened despite treatment at VIMSAR. She was shifted to Vikash Hospital in Sambalpur, where she remained in ICU from May 14 to June 5. Later, she was moved to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where she died on June 8 after battling for life for 26 days.
Following her death, family members and locals staged a protest outside Purohit General Hospital, demanding strict action against Dr. Rama Krushna Purohit and the hospital staff. They alleged that negligence during the cesarean procedure led to the fatal outcome.
Police registered a case at the Bargarh Town Police Station and began investigating the allegations. The hospital authorities have not issued any response.
