A Gurugram-based design company has terminated one of its employees after a viral video sparked outrage across social media platforms and reignited conversations about misogyny, consent, and accountability.

The controversy began when 22-year-old Himanshu Jangra appeared in a viral clip from a stand-up comedy show. In the video, he suggested that paying ₹370 for a meal entitled him to receive something in return from a woman, a remark that many viewers condemned as disrespectful and objectifying.

As criticism intensified online, Jangra issued an apology and later deactivated his social media account. However, the backlash continued, prompting his employer, Starvik Design, to review the situation.

Company Announces Termination

Starvik Design founder Vivek Vishwakarma addressed the issue publicly through a social media statement. He made it clear that the comments shown in the viral video did not reflect the company’s values or workplace culture.

According to Vishwakarma, the company conducted an internal review and consulted team members, including female employees. He stated that no workplace complaints had been reported against Jangra and that colleagues described him as professional and respectful during his employment.

Despite this, the company concluded that the controversy had begun affecting the workplace environment and its professional reputation.

“As an organisation, we have responsibilities toward our employees, clients, and workplace culture. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways with Himanshu,” Vishwakarma said.

Call for Reflection and Growth

While confirming the termination, Vishwakarma also urged the public to leave room for personal growth and reflection.

He acknowledged that individuals can make serious mistakes and should face consequences for their actions. At the same time, he expressed hope that the young employee would learn from the experience and use it as an opportunity for self-improvement.

The founder further highlighted the intense pressure created by online criticism and said that public accountability should not completely eliminate opportunities for personal change.

Social Media Remains Divided

The company’s decision received mixed reactions online.

Many users supported the termination, arguing that the comments reflected harmful attitudes toward women and deserved consequences. Others focused on the broader issue of accountability, saying that public figures and professionals must be mindful of their statements both online and offline.

At the same time, some commenters debated whether society should allow individuals the opportunity to acknowledge mistakes, learn, and change after facing appropriate consequences.

Larger Conversation on Consent and Respect

The incident has evolved beyond a single viral video and has become part of a wider discussion about gender attitudes, consent, and respect in modern society.

Social commentators noted that the backlash demonstrates growing public awareness around issues of equality and personal autonomy. Many users emphasised that acts of kindness, gifts, or shared expenses do not create obligations in personal relationships.

The controversy also highlights how online content can quickly influence professional lives, reinforcing the importance of responsible communication in the digital age.

As conversations continue, the episode serves as a reminder that public statements can carry significant consequences, particularly when they touch on issues of dignity, consent, and mutual respect.
