Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Department has announced the recruitment of 1,726 new technical positions that will directly improve medicine availability, eye care and accurate disease diagnosis.

The department will appoint 1,108 Pharmacist Officers to streamline the purchase, storage and distribution of medicines, ensuring patients get the right drugs without delay. 238 Ophthalmic Officers will be deployed to expand eye-health services, while 380 Medical Lab Technicians will boost laboratory testing capacity for quicker and more reliable diagnosis of diseases.

These posts have already received approval from the Finance Department and will be filled through a transparent, merit-based recruitment process in the coming days.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling said the initiative reflects the government’s strong focus on strengthening human resources in healthcare under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.

“The health department has significantly improved manpower. Removing staff shortages in medical institutions and providing smooth, hassle-free healthcare services to patients is our top priority,” Dr Mahaling stated.

This large-scale recruitment is expected to reduce waiting times, improve medicine availability in government facilities, strengthen eye-care outreach and enhance diagnostic accuracy — especially benefiting people in rural and tribal areas.

With these new appointments, Odisha is taking a decisive step towards building a more responsive, well-equipped and patient-friendly public health system.
