A youth named Arun Praska from Valumaska under Kalyansinghpur block died late Thursday night after failing to get an ambulance following a road accident near Rayat Colony in Rayagada town.
Arun had come to Rayagada to attend a friend’s birthday celebration. While returning home, he met with a bike accident and sustained severe injuries. Local residents rescued him and rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Doctors provided preliminary treatment and advised shifting him to Berhampur for advanced care. However, Arun’s relatives alleged that they could not arrange a 108 ambulance despite repeated attempts. They claimed that the hospital manager did not cooperate in providing an ambulance.
Without timely transport, Arun’s condition deteriorated, and he died. His relative Maheswar Kundu accused hospital authorities of negligence and blamed the lack of ambulance support for the tragedy.
The incident sparked outrage among locals, who demanded accountability and better emergency services. The case highlights recurring concerns over ambulance availability in critical situations across Odisha.
Authorities are expected to review the matter and initiate inquiry into the allegations of negligence.
