Police in Padmapur, Bargarh district achieved a major breakthrough against illegal narcotics trade by seizing cough syrup worth around Rs 40 lakh and arresting two accused near Gadbhati Chhak late Thursday evening.
During the raid, police recovered 22 plastic bags containing cartons of Wincerex cough syrup. Each carton held 120 bottles, totaling 7,920 bottles. Officers also seized a vehicle bearing registration number OD 02 DP 4745 used for transporting the contraband.
The arrested accused were identified as Manas Pandey (25) of Jhankarapali village under Padmapur police station in Bargarh district, and Sarat Chandra Tunga (32) of Salia Sahi under Nayapalli police station in Khordha district. Police sources confirmed that the consignment originated from Bhubaneswar and was being transported to Padmapur.
Padmapur Tahasildar Manas Panda was present during the raid, which exposed the scale of the illegal trade. Police registered a case against the accused and initiated further investigation to trace the supply chain and other individuals involved.
