The CID Crime Branch, Odisha, apprehended the prime accused, Pradeep Mangaraj alias Dipu, in connection with the murder of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain on the night of June 1.
Officials confirmed that Mangaraj, aged 46 and a resident of Benupur under Balianta police station limits, was arrested from Dhenkanal based on substantial evidence gathered during the investigation. The case, registered under CID CB Police Station Case No. 06/2026, arising out of Balianta PS Case No. 221/2026, relates to the sensational incident that occurred on May 7 in the Bhingarpur–Kaja area.
Investigators revealed Mangaraj’s involvement in assaulting the deceased. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the probe. So far, 18 accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
The CID Crime Branch continues to prioritise the investigation, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the incident. Authorities emphasised that the probe remains active and further arrests are expected.
