Sundargarh police busted a major illegal gambling den in Jamjharia forest under Hemgiri police station near the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border.
Acting on secret intelligence, police launched a midnight raid under the instructions of Superintendent of Police Amritpal Kaur.
During the operation, police arrested 26 gamblers and seized a massive haul of cash and valuables. Officers recovered ₹11,16,900 in cash, nine motorcycles, three cars, 31 mobile phones, and a large quantity of playing cards.
SP Amritpal Kaur said police formed a special team and raided the forest hideout based on reliable information. She confirmed that strict action will continue against unlawful gambling dens in the district.
The crackdown marks one of the biggest operations against illegal gambling in Sundargarh in recent times. Police emphasised that investigations are ongoing to trace the wider network behind the racket.
Authorities warned that gambling dens operating in remote areas will face similar raids. The successful operation demonstrated the district police’s commitment to curbing illegal activities and maintaining law and order.
