Twisha Sharma Death Case

The investigation into the death of Noida resident Twisha Sharma has taken a major turn after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought five-day custody of her mother-in-law, former district judge Giribala Singh, in a Bhopal court on Friday.

According to reports, Giribala Singh’s lawyer did not oppose the CBI’s request for remand. The agency also sought an extension of custody for Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, who is already under arrest in connection with the case.

Giribala Singh was arrested a day earlier after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled her anticipatory bail. Her arrest has intensified public attention on the case, which involves allegations of dowry harassment and cruelty.

What Is the Twisha Sharma Case?

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, died on May 12, just months after marrying Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025.

Following her death, Twisha’s family accused her husband and in-laws of harassment linked to dowry demands. The case has sparked widespread discussion on women’s safety and accountability in alleged dowry-related crimes.

The accused are facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

Charges Against Giribala Singh

Former judge Giribala Singh has been booked under multiple legal provisions, including:

  • Section 80(2) of the BNS for dowry death
  • Section 85 for cruelty by husband or relatives
  • Section 3(5) for acts committed with common intention
  • Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.

Supreme Court Ordered CBI Probe

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court directed the CBI to take over the investigation and complete the probe without delay.

The apex court also advised both Twisha Sharma’s family and the accused persons to avoid making public statements while the investigation is ongoing.

The case continues to draw nationwide attention as investigators gather evidence and question those connected to the incident.
