A 140-foot-long Buddha sand sculpture has been unveiled on the banks of the Daya River in Bhubaneswar, symbolising peace and compassion.
The Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar created the massive artwork using 22 lakh kilograms of sand.
The sculpture stands 36 feet high and 50 feet wide, depicting Lord Buddha in a reclining posture. Twenty artists, including six women, worked continuously for 36 hours to complete the masterpiece.
Organisers said the sand art aims to spread Buddha’s message of harmony and non-violence to the world. The sculpture will remain open for public viewing for three days.
The project showcases Odisha’s rich sand art tradition and highlights Bhubaneswar’s growing reputation as a centre for cultural creativity. Visitors have praised the intricate detailing and scale of the sculpture, calling it a visual representation of serenity.
