Rourkela Police achieved a major breakthrough in Odisha’s ongoing anti-drug campaign by dismantling an active brown sugar network in the Meena Pada area under Plantsite Police Station limits.
Acting on the directions of SP Nitesh Wadhwani, police launched a special early morning raid with three platoons of force and successfully cracked the drug trafficking ring operating in the locality. Officers arrested eight alleged peddlers, including seven women, and seized 220 grams of brown sugar valued at more than Rs 1 crore in the illegal market.
Police also recovered Rs 2,70,240 in cash and three mobile phones from the accused. The operation formed part of the state-wide “Nasha Mukta Odisha” campaign aimed at eradicating the narcotics trade and substance abuse.
Officials said Meena Pada has witnessed several anti-drug raids earlier, each yielding significant seizures. Friday’s action marked another decisive step in the continuing crackdown against organised drug trafficking in Rourkela.
