The untimely Rath Yatra scheduled for May 23 in Ferozepur Cantonment, Punjab, has been suspended following intervention by the district administration.
The decision came after Puri Shree Jagannath Temple authorities raised objections to holding the festival before the traditional date.
Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate wrote to Shree Jagannath Temple Chief Administrator Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, acknowledging the concerns. Officials then met with the Ferozepur temple committee and explained the cultural and spiritual significance of observing the Rath Yatra only during its traditional time in Puri.
After discussions, the temple authorities in Ferozepur provided written consent to suspend the event. A copy of the consent letter was also forwarded to the Puri temple administration.
