Delhi on High Alert After Intelligence Inputs Warn of Possible Terror Threat

Delhi has been placed on high alert after intelligence agencies warned of a possible terror attack targeting key government buildings and political party offices in the national capital.

According to police officials, security has been significantly increased in Lutyens’ Delhi, with special focus on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters and nearby government establishments.

The alert comes days after the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested nine alleged members of a network linked to Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti. Investigators believe the group was involved in recruiting operatives through social media platforms and planning violent activities in Delhi-NCR and northern India.

Police Intensify Security Measures in Sensitive Areas

Senior police officials said security arrangements have been strengthened at important offices, political headquarters, and high-security zones in New Delhi. Additional personnel have been deployed, while surveillance and vehicle checks have been intensified in and around sensitive areas.

Authorities are also monitoring potential threats involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs), vehicle-borne attacks, and armed assaults. The heightened security follows concerns raised after previous terror-related incidents near key landmarks in the capital.

Pakistan-Linked Network Under Investigation

According to the Delhi Police Special Cell, the arrested suspects allegedly worked for a network associated with Shahzad Bhatti, a gangster believed to operate from Pakistan. Officials stated that some accused were involved in illegal arms trafficking, while others were allegedly instructed to carry out random firing attacks targeting security personnel.

Investigators are currently examining digital evidence, communication records, and financial transactions connected to the group. Security agencies are also probing possible links with other extremist or criminal networks operating across state borders.

BJP Headquarters Among Potential Targets

Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that intelligence inputs specifically mentioned the possibility of an attack on the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Following the warning, security around the party office and nearby administrative buildings was immediately upgraded.

A BJP functionary reportedly said that heightened security measures have been implemented at party offices nationwide following recent political developments and intelligence alerts.

Authorities Urge Vigilance

Security agencies have urged citizens to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended objects in public places. Police teams continue to conduct patrols, verification drives, and surprise inspections across the city to prevent any untoward incident.

Officials said the situation is being monitored closely and all preventive measures are being taken to ensure public safety.
