Amid intense heat and rising humidity across Odisha, weather conditions may soon change as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal early next week.
The developing system is expected to increase rainfall activity in several parts of the state and could provide much-needed relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather.
According to weather experts, atmospheric conditions remain favourable for the formation of the low-pressure system on Monday. However, meteorologists are still assessing its exact path, intensity, and possible impact on Odisha and neighbouring regions.
Cyclonic Circulation Active Near Sri Lanka Coast
A cyclonic circulation currently persists over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka coast. Reports suggest the system extends up to nearly 5.8 kilometres above mean sea level, contributing to changing weather patterns across the Bay of Bengal region.
Different weather forecasting models have offered varying projections regarding the movement and strength of the possible low-pressure area. Meteorological agencies are closely monitoring developments for clearer predictions over the coming days.
Heat and Humidity Continue Across Odisha
Despite expectations of rainfall, several districts in Odisha continued to experience uncomfortable weather conditions on Saturday. High temperatures combined with excessive humidity created sultry conditions across urban and rural areas alike.
Residents in many districts reported severe discomfort due to the persistent heatwave-like atmosphere. The weather situation has increased concerns over public health, especially for children, elderly citizens, outdoor workers, and vulnerable communities.
Rainfall May Bring Temporary Relief
Weather experts believe that rainfall activity could intensify if the low-pressure system strengthens over the Bay of Bengal. Thunderstorms and scattered rain showers are likely to reduce daytime temperatures and improve overall weather conditions across Odisha.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already forecast widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity in the state over the next few days. Further updates regarding the movement and intensity of the weather system are expected soon.
