A home guard from Chitrakonda police station, Debendra Rout, sustained serious injuries during an operation to arrest a ganja smuggler in Limatang village under Paparmetla police station in Malkangiri district.
The incident occurred last evening when Chitrakonda police attempted to apprehend the suspect. Villagers attacked the police team, leaving Rout with injuries to his head and hand.
In response, Chitrakonda and Paparmetla police conducted a joint raid on Limatang village this evening. However, the villagers again retaliated, attacking the police team. Rout’s condition remains critical following the assault.
Authorities are investigating the incident and have vowed to take strict action against those involved in obstructing law enforcement efforts.
