Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of BNK High School at Purushottampur in Keonjhar district on Tuesday.
He praised the institution’s 50-year journey of struggle, success, and social transformation, and reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening education in Odisha.
The Chief Minister announced ₹7 crore assistance to upgrade BNK High School as a PM Shri School. He also declared that the Kutaripashi Panchayat will be developed as a model Panchayat. Majhi emphasised that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world and assured full government support for the school’s development.
Highlighting achievements, Majhi said the state government has appointed over 25,000 teachers in the past two years and regularised 13,000 contractual teachers. Recruitment for 45,000 more teachers is underway. He criticised superficial work in 5T model schools and announced the construction of 2,200 Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Primary Schools with a budget of Rs 50 crore.
Majhi added that 800 schools in Odisha will be transformed into excellence centres under the PM Shri scheme. He stressed the importance of foundational literacy and mother-tongue education under the Nipun Odisha Mission. He also lauded India’s scientific progress in nuclear energy, calling it a matter of national pride.
The Chief Minister paid tribute to local social worker Saharai Oram and promised comprehensive support for BNK High School’s growth. He unveiled the school’s souvenir and honoured meritorious students. He directed the district administration to provide additional grants for education infrastructure in Purushottampur.
Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, MLAs Sanatan Mahakud, Fakir Mohan Naik, Akhil Chandra Naik, and District Collector Vishal Singh were present.
