Police arrested four men in connection with a gang rape case in the Barkote police limits of Deogarh district.
One accused remains absconding. The arrested men include Udia Dhibar (26), Doctor Bhuyan (33), Manoj Mahakul (22), and Prashant alias Kengalu Nayak (28). Authorities confirmed that all four hail from villages under Barakot jurisdiction.
The incident occurred on April 20 when a 24-year-old woman faced assault while returning from a relative’s house. Five men allegedly raped her and captured nude photographs, later circulating them on social media. The survivor lodged a complaint at the Barkote police station, prompting an immediate investigation.
Police registered a case under the IT Act and BNS 70. Officers produced the accused in court, where bail was denied. All four were sent to jail custody. One suspect remains at large, and police continue efforts to apprehend him.
Station Officer Sushant Badhei confirmed the ongoing investigation. He emphasised that strict action will follow against those responsible for the crime and the circulation of explicit images.
