Odisha continues to reel under extreme heat as temperatures soared across the state.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar confirmed that seven cities recorded temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius, intensifying the ongoing heatwave.

Jharsuguda registered the highest at 44.8°C, followed by Sonepur at 43.7°C, Titilagarh at 43.6°C, Bhawanipatna at 43.4°C, Balangir at 43.1°C, and Boudh at 43.0°C. The scorching conditions left residents struggling with unbearable heat and humidity.

The weather office issued a heatwave alert for 11 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Officials urged people to avoid exposure during peak hours and stay hydrated.

Along the coastal belt, humidity combined with high temperatures created oppressive conditions. In western Odisha, the heatwave persisted with relentless intensity. Meteorologists warned that the situation will remain severe until April 28, with little relief expected.

However, forecasts suggest possible changes in weather patterns by April 29. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain may occur in coastal and southern districts, offering temporary respite. The agency cautioned that until then, the heatwave will continue to dominate large parts of the state.

The prolonged heatwave has disrupted daily life, with schools adjusting schedules and residents limiting outdoor activities. Health experts advised precautionary measures to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.
