A shocking murder disrupted a wedding procession in Ganjam district, leaving a younger brother dead and sparking widespread protests.
The incident occurred in Balighai village under Polasara police limits during the elder brother’s marriage celebration.
Witnesses reported that the younger brother, identified as Akash Jena, faced a fatal attack amid the festivities. He was rushed to MKCG Medical College in Berhampur, where doctors declared him dead. The sudden tragedy turned a joyous occasion into mourning and ignited anger in the community.
Following the death, family members and locals staged a protest at Polasara Forest Colony Square. They placed the body on the road, burned tires, and blocked traffic to demand the immediate arrest of the accused. The blockade halted movement between Kabisuryanagar and Polasara, stranding hundreds of vehicles for hours.
Police officials reached the site and engaged in discussions with the agitated crowd. After assurances of strict action, the protesters lifted the blockade. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to apprehend those responsible for the murder.
