Malkangiri district administration organised a mass marriage ceremony under the Chief Minister’s Kanya Vivah Yojana at the Kalyan Mandap on Tuesday.

Seventeen couples tied the knot following traditional Vedic rituals, beginning their new lives with government assistance.

District Collector Prathamesh Arvind Rajshirkhe, Malkangiri MLA Narsingha Madkami, and Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khila attended the event and blessed the newlyweds. The Collector highlighted that the scheme provides hope to poor families unable to afford marriage expenses. He stressed that the initiative not only offers social recognition but also ensures legal protection through marriage registration certificates.

MLA Madkami praised the scheme for enabling daughters from economically weaker families to start married life with dignity. MLA Khila added that such mass marriage programs help curb social evils like dowry.

During the ceremony, each bride received a cheque of Rs 45,000, a marriage registration certificate, and a fruit-bearing sapling. Senior officials, including Additional District Magistrates Somnath Pradhan and Vedabar Pradhan, CDO and EO Dasarath Sarabu, and Deputy Collector Duryodhan Bhoi, were present. District Social Welfare Officer Gouri Nayak supervised the arrangements.

Voluntary organisations, district-level officers, and social welfare staff extended full cooperation to make the event successful. The program reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting poor families and promoting social welfare.
