Drinking Water Project Delays

The Odisha government has taken a decisive stance against delays in the implementation of the mega drinking water project.

Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, during the Question Hour in the Odisha Assembly, announced stringent measures to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Minister Naik informed the Assembly that fines have already been imposed on various contracting companies responsible for the delay. A meeting with the heads of all implementing companies has been scheduled within the next seven days. The Minister warned that companies failing to meet deadlines would face severe consequences, including blacklisting and contract termination. The work would then be reassigned to other companies, and their negligence would be reported to governments in other states where they are also operating.

Highlighting concerns over the decreasing water flow in the Mahanadi basin, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the construction of seven barrages to support the drinking water project. Minister Naik emphasized the necessity of these barrages to counteract the challenges posed by the diminishing water flow.

In response to additional questions from MLAs, the Minister also assured that the electricity supply for drinking water projects would not be disconnected due to unpaid bills. He warned of strict action against any officer found to be violating this directive.

The government’s actions reflect a determined effort to ensure the successful and timely completion of the mega drinking water project, which is vital for the state’s residents.
