A tragic incident has surfaced from Hyderabad, where a 16-year-old student from Odisha’s Koraput district died while working as a migrant labourer.
The boy, identified as Mangala Khara of Adbanaguda village under Baipariguda block, had recently appeared for his matriculation examination at Baligaon High School.
After completing his exams, Mangala left home during Holi without informing his family. He travelled with a friend to Hyderabad and joined a private construction company named Mudi Builder in the Mijampeta district.
On Sunday morning, while engaged in centring work, Mangala slipped and fell, leading to his death on the spot. His family received the devastating news and approached the Baipariguda police for assistance. Authorities confirmed that his body will be brought back to his native village after the post-mortem in Hyderabad.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing issue of migrant working in Odisha. Despite government claims of reduced migration, thousands continue to leave the state in search of employment. The death of a minor labourer underscores the vulnerability of children forced into hazardous work due to a lack of opportunities at home.
