Eight devotees died and several sustained injuries after a stampede broke out at Sheetla Mata Mandir in Maghra village of Bihar’s Nalanda district on Tuesday.
A massive crowd gathered at the temple as worshippers assembled for the last Tuesday of the Chaitra month. The sudden surge in movement triggered panic, leading to the deadly stampede.
Authorities confirmed that more than half a dozen injured devotees were rushed to the Model Hospital in Bihar Sharif for treatment. Police personnel, assisted by locals, quickly reached the temple and began rescue and relief operations.
Visuals from the site captured chaotic scenes as the dense crowd pushed forward. People stumbled and fell while others cried for help. Officials struggled to restore order amid the commotion.
This tragedy echoes a similar incident last year at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh, where nine devotees died, and 13 others were injured during the Ekadashi observance. In both cases, overcrowding and sudden surges in crowd movement created panic and confusion.
