Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan to assess the availability of essential commodities in the state in view of the volatile situation in West Asia.

The meeting evaluated the steps being taken by the state government to prevent any artificial shortages of petroleum products, cooking gas (LPG), fertilizers and other daily essentials arising due to the geopolitical tensions.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that adequate stocks of petroleum, gas and other essential items are available in the state as per requirement. Majhi directed the administration to remain extremely vigilant against any attempt to create artificial scarcity of cooking gas or other essentials. He ordered statewide raids and firm action against unscrupulous traders indulging in black marketing.

The Chief Minister laid special emphasis on maintaining sufficient stocks of fertilizers for the upcoming Rabi season cultivation. He also instructed officials to launch a widespread public awareness campaign so that people do not become anxious or panic over the availability of essential commodities.

It was noted during the meeting that India relies on various Gulf countries for petrol, petroleum products and LNG. The ongoing war-like situation in West Asia has raised concerns over possible impact on the supply and prices of petrol and LPG. The high-level meeting was specifically convened to closely monitor the availability and distribution system of these commodities in Odisha.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg presented a detailed report on the measures already initiated by the state government. Extensive discussions were held on ensuring uninterrupted supply of petrol, cooking gas and fertilizers across the state.
