Police arrested a 24-year-old youth from Debajharan village under Reamal police limits for allegedly blackmailing a college girl’s family with objectionable videos and issuing death threats.
According to police sources, the accused Birendra Kumar Sahu, son of Khirod Chandra Sahu, repeatedly called the girl’s brother on WhatsApp, abused him in obscene language, and threatened to kill family members if she married elsewhere. He claimed the girl was in a relationship with him and warned against her marriage being fixed with another person.
Investigators said the accused also sent objectionable photos of the student to her family, attempting to blackmail them. The victim’s brother lodged a written complaint at the Kundheigola police station, leading to registration of a case under the IT Act, 2000 (Sections 66E, 67, 67A) and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (Sections 2023, 296, 351(3)).
Police arrested Birendra on Tuesday and produced him in court. His bail plea was rejected, and he has been sent to judicial custody.
Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine if the accused was involved in similar offences.
