He thanked the people of Bihar for their trust over two decades and assured continued support for the new government. With his exit, Bihar is set to witness its first BJP chief minister, marking a historic shift in the state’s political landscape.
Five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar will go to polls on March 16, with March 5 as the last date for nominations. Nitish Kumar’s election is almost certain, given the NDA’s strength in the state assembly. JD(U) leaders, including MLC Sanjay Gandhi, pledged full support to his decision.
Sources indicated that Nitish’s son Nishant Kumar may be accommodated as deputy chief minister, signalling a generational transition in Bihar politics.
