Israel Launches Strikes on Tehran as Trump Signals ‘Big Decision’ on Iran Nuclear Talks

Explosions were reported across Tehran on Saturday morning after Israel confirmed it had launched strikes targeting Iran. Smoke was seen rising over parts of the capital, intensifying fears of a broader regional escalation.

Sirens were simultaneously sounded across Israel as the military issued proactive alerts, warning residents of the possibility of retaliatory missile launches toward Israeli territory.

The strikes come at a critical moment in diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Trump Signals Major Decision on Iran Nuclear Talks

US President Donald Trump stated that Washington faces a “very big decision” as negotiations with Tehran approach a deadline.

Speaking after talks in Geneva ended without a final agreement, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of progress.

“We have a big decision to make. Not easy. We’re not exactly happy with the way they’re negotiating. They cannot have nuclear weapons,” he said.

Despite his frustration, Trump indicated that negotiators may be given additional time to pursue a diplomatic solution and avoid further conflict in the Middle East.

Oman Says Agreement Is Within Reach

Oman has been serving as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi described the talks as close to a breakthrough.

In a statement shared publicly, he emphasized the importance of a peaceful and verifiable agreement:

“No nuclear weapons. Not ever. Zero stockpiling. Comprehensive verification. Peacefully and permanently. Let’s support the negotiators in closing the deal.”

Albusaidi urged all parties to provide negotiators the space needed to finalize outstanding issues.

Progress Reported, But Differences Remain

The latest round of negotiations, held in Geneva, concluded without a formal agreement. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the discussions as constructive, saying talks had entered serious discussions on both nuclear activity and sanctions relief.

US representatives reportedly expressed disappointment with the pace of progress.

A new round of negotiations is expected to take place in Vienna next week as diplomatic efforts continue.

Heightened Military Presence in the Middle East

Amid ongoing negotiations, the US military presence in the Middle East remains elevated. Regional security analysts warn that direct military engagement between Israel and Iran could complicate diplomatic efforts and destabilize the broader region.

The situation continues to evolve, with global leaders closely monitoring developments to prevent further escalation.
