PCB reportedly takes Pakistan players’ phones into custody ahead of 3rd England Test

According to reports in sections of the Pakistan media, the phones will remain with the PCB until the conclusion of the Birmingham Test.

It is not yet clear which players or team members have been asked to hand over their phones. The PCB has also not publicly explained the reason behind the reported move.

The development comes amid heightened attention around the Pakistan team following a series of changes and reported sackings involving players and coaching staff ahead of the third Test.

What does the ICC say about mobile phones?

International cricket already has restrictions on the use of mobile phones and other communication devices in designated restricted areas during matches.

Under Article 4 of the ICC’s regulations on the use of mobile phones and communication devices, individuals are prohibited from carrying or using mobile devices in the Player and Match Officials Area (PMOA).

The regulations also restrict the use of laptops and certain telephone facilities within the designated area.

However, the reported PCB decision appears to go beyond the standard restrictions, as the phones are allegedly being kept in the board’s custody until the Test concludes.

There has been no public statement from the PCB explaining whether the reported phone collection is connected to team discipline, security, communication restrictions or another internal matter.
