The Supreme Court Road Safety Committee directed the Odisha government to submit a detailed report on the Ganjam road tragedy near Haladiapadar in Brahmapur by March 5.

The committee asked the state to explain the causes of the accident and outline measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Officials emphasised that the report must include corrective actions and proposed road safety improvements.

The directive followed the January 31 accident in which a truck collision claimed five lives on the national highway. The committee instructed the government to also send a report on proposed safety steps, ensuring accountability and transparency in road safety planning.

Authorities highlighted the importance of implementing strong safety measures to reduce accidents on national highways. The committee stressed that Odisha must take immediate steps to enhance road infrastructure, enforce traffic rules, and strengthen monitoring systems.

The Ganjam road tragedy has drawn national attention, and the Supreme Court’s intervention underscores the urgency of addressing road safety challenges. The upcoming report will serve as a benchmark for future preventive measures in Odisha.
