Police in Bhawanipatna uncovered a shocking crime when they recovered the decomposed body of a young woman buried near a farmhouse in Sripur.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Varsha Patel from Saralanji under Bhawanipatna Sadar police station, had been missing for several days.

Investigators revealed that Varsha married Neelambar alias Lalit Patel in 2023 through a love marriage. Family members opposed the union, and the couple lived away from their native village. Tension reportedly grew between them, leading to suspicions of foul play.

On Monday afternoon, local sanitation workers noticed a buried hand while cleaning the area. They alerted the farmhouse owner, who informed police. Officers reached the spot, exhumed the body, and seized evidence, including a mangalsutra. Varsha’s father, Prakash Patel, filed a written complaint the same night, prompting police to register a murder case.

Police sources confirmed that Lalit Patel has gone missing since the discovery. Officers suspect he fled outside the state. A special team has been deployed to track him down. Authorities believe his arrest will reveal the full truth behind the crime.

The gruesome incident has shocked Bhawanipatna residents. Police continue their investigation, focusing on marital discord and family disputes as possible motives.
