In a significant boost to India’s indigenous defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight-tested its third-generation Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM).

The test, conducted by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad, demonstrated the missile’s fire-and-forget capability with a precise top-attack strike on a moving target.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, its development-cum-production partners, and the industry, describing the successful DRDO MPATGM test as “an important step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” The announcement was made via the official handle of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by video footage of the trial.

The MPATGM is designed as a lightweight, shoulder-launched system with an Imaging Infrared (IIR) seeker that enables lock-on-before-launch and autonomous guidance. Weighing approximately 14.5 kg (missile) with a command launch unit of similar weight, the system has a maximum range of 2.5 km and features a tandem warhead capable of defeating modern armoured vehicles protected by explosive reactive armour (ERA).
