A serious road accident occurred on National Highway 55 (NH-55) near Radharamanpur Chhak under Khuntuni police station limits in Athagarh, Cuttack district, when a private bus rear-ended a truck, injuring more than 10 passengers.
According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the mishap took place on Saturday morning. The private bus attempted to overtake another vehicle and rammed into the rear of a stationary or slow-moving truck. As a result, the front portion of the bus suffered heavy damage, leaving several passengers injured.
All injured passengers were rushed to a nearby medical facility. Doctors confirmed that no fatalities occurred, and the conditions of the injured remain stable. Police reached the accident site quickly and began investigating possible causes, including speeding, overtaking errors, and road conditions.
Traffic on NH-55 was disrupted for some time but returned to normal after authorities cleared the vehicles. Road safety remains a pressing concern on Odisha’s highways, where overtaking-related accidents frequently occur, especially on busy routes like NH-55.
