The Delhi government on Tuesday confirmed that the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ policy will remain in force across the national capital even after GRAP-IV anti-pollution restrictions are relaxed, as part of sustained efforts to combat air pollution.
Delhi Government Stands Firm on Vehicle Emission Norms
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will continue to be denied fuel, underscoring the government’s long-term commitment to improving air quality.
“Anti-pollution measures will not be rolled back with the easing of GRAP-IV. The ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule will stay in place to ensure accountability and compliance,” Sirsa said.
The policy was implemented on December 18 amid worsening air quality in the capital.
Crackdown on Faulty PUC Centres
During enforcement checks, authorities found that several PUC centres were either non-operational or using defective equipment. According to the minister, 12 centres have been suspended, and notices have been issued to ensure corrective action.
₹100 Crore Allocation for Water Body Rejuvenation
In addition to vehicle-related measures, the Delhi government has announced a ₹100 crore allocation for the rejuvenation of water bodies across the city, aiming to improve the urban environment and support long-term pollution control.
Severe Air Quality Continues in Delhi
Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘severe’ category on Tuesday. As of 3 pm, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 415, while dense fog reduced visibility to 50 metres at Palam and Safdarjung.
The poor visibility led to over 200 flight delays at Indira Gandhi International Airport, along with disruptions to rail services.
Weather Outlook
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said foggy conditions are likely to persist during morning hours over the next few days. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 22°C, while the minimum may drop to 9°C. No colour-coded weather warning has been issued.
