The Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, convicted Sri Trinath Sethy, Former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Asarada GP under Hindol Block and A/p-PEO of Barada GP under Sadar Block, in a bribery case filed by Odisha Vigilance.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Sethy under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a beneficiary to submit a verification report for houses constructed under the Biju Pucca Ghara Yojana.
The court sentenced Sethy to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to dismiss Sethy from service as per rules.
This conviction underscores the state’s commitment to strict action against corruption and accountability in welfare schemes.
