The Vigilance team in Jeypore caught Amarbar Mallik, ADEO of Bodaput Panchayat under Baipariguda Block in Koraput district, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor.
The operation took place at his government quarters in Jeypore on December 9.
According to reports, Mallik demanded Rs 20,000 from a contractor to issue a work order for ghat cutting in Gayolkari village under the MGNREGS scheme. He assured the contractor that payment would follow only after the bribe. The contractor informed the Jeypore Vigilance team, which laid a trap and prepared for the handover.
During the evening, the contractor visited Mallik’s quarters with the money. Vigilance officers immediately intervened and caught him red-handed while receiving the bribe. The team arrested Mallik and initiated further investigation into the case.
Officials confirmed that the Vigilance department will continue inquiries to uncover additional evidence and examine related documents. The arrest highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in rural development projects.
