The Panchayati Raj Department of Odisha has directed the relocation of 573 post offices to Panchayat offices across the state.

The move aims to streamline administrative functions and strengthen grassroots governance.

According to official communication, all district collectors received instructions to ensure the transfer process. While 573 relocations have been ordered, only 71 post offices have been shifted so far. Authorities emphasised that the remaining offices must complete the transition by December 20.

The directive underscores the state’s effort to integrate postal services with Panchayat-level administration. Officials believe the relocation will improve accessibility for rural citizens and enhance coordination between local governance and service delivery.

District administrations now face the challenge of meeting the deadline. The Panchayati Raj Department has asked collectors to monitor progress closely and submit compliance reports.
