A cyclone that originated in the Malacca Strait has weakened into a depression, while a deep depression centred off the Sri Lankan coast in the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclone. Named ‘Ditwah’, this storm is currently moving in a south-southeast direction.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to gradually shift north-northwest and make landfall along the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-south Andhra Pradesh coast by November 30.

The cyclone is likely to bring heavy rainfall to Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh. In Odisha, the impact is expected to be minimal, though cloudy weather may persist in the southern and coastal regions.

Meanwhile, Odisha continues to experience a cold wave, with minimum temperatures dropping significantly across several areas. G Udayagiri recorded the lowest temperature at 5.4°C, and a total of seven locations saw mercury levels fall below 10°C.

Following G Udayagiri, Semiliguda reported 8.1°C, Phulbani and Daringbadi both at 8.5°C, Jharsuguda at 9.2°C, Bhawanipatna at 9.8°C, and Koraput at 10°C. Dense fog was observed in Phulbani, while moderate fog affected Bhawanipatna and Rourkela.

The regional meteorological centre noted that cold conditions are being felt in districts including Angul, Keonjhar, Khordha, Bolangir, Sonpur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Cuttack.
