Former Sonepur MLA Debaraj Seth passed away at the age of 81 at his residence in Manahira under the Sibtula panchayat of Tarbha block.
Seth, who had been undergoing treatment for age-related illnesses, breathed his last surrounded by his four daughters, their spouses, and his grandchildren.
The veteran politician, a Janata Party leader, represented the Sonepur assembly constituency from 1977 to 1980 and later served as the chairman of the Tarbha Panchayat Samiti from 1992 to 1995. His last rites were performed at the village crematorium, with his grandson Bikram Seth conducting the rituals.
Several prominent figures expressed their condolences, including Tarbha Block Chairman Saroj Comp, former Sibtula Sarpanch Bhar Chandra Mishra, and senior journalist Ashok Kumar Sahu. Members of the Rajak Seva Sangh and its district representatives from Subarnapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and other areas also mourned Seth’s passing, highlighting his contributions to the community and public service.
