A woman from Darjeeling is in critical condition after she was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend near Buddha Park under the Chandrasekharpur police limits in Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning. The incident has caused widespread concern in the locality, where the woman had been operating a small momo stall for the past several months.
According to the initial findings of the investigation, the couple visited Buddha Park early in the morning, where a heated argument reportedly broke out. The accused, identified as Tinku Gurum, allegedly confronted the woman over personal suspicions, leading to a violent escalation.
Witnesses informed police that the argument intensified rapidly. In a sudden act of violence, Tinku allegedly used a sharp weapon to slit the woman’s throat. Bystanders rushed to assist her and prevented the accused from escaping. Police arrived shortly after receiving the alert.
The woman was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where she is currently receiving critical care.
Chandrasekharpur police have detained the accused, who will be produced in court. A suo motu case has been registered, and investigators are reviewing the events leading up to the assault. The victim’s family in Darjeeling has been notified.
Officers stated that further legal steps will depend on the woman’s medical condition and her account once she is stable enough to provide a statement.
