Congress has launched an aggressive campaign for the upcoming Nuapada by-election in Odisha. The party formed two strategic committees and officially nominated senior tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi as its candidate.
To strengthen its organizational efforts, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhakta Charan Das introduced a 10-member steering committee led by MP Saptagiri Ulaka. Additionally, he set up a 22-member election monitoring committee to manage ground-level operations. These committees include key figures such as Debashish Pattnaik, Siddharth Swarup Das, and MLAs Ashok Das, Sagar Charan Das, and Satyajit Gamang.
Ghasiram Majhi, a seasoned leader and five-time candidate from Nuapada, rejoined the race after contesting independently in 2024. He had earned over 50,000 votes and narrowly lost to BJD’s Rajendra Dholakia by 10,881 votes. His nomination signals Congress’s renewed trust in his grassroots influence and experience.
As the by-election approaches on November 11, with results expected on November 14, Congress has taken an early lead in preparations. The party plans a massive rally on October 18, where over 25,000 supporters will accompany Majhi during his nomination filing.
Meanwhile, Majhi is set to face BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria and BJP’s Jay Dholakia in a triangular contest. With strong tribal backing and a unified campaign strategy, Congress aims to reclaim the Nuapada seat and reassert its presence in the region.
