A sudden fire broke out inside a house near Bhimachhak in Raighar subdivision of Nabarangpur district at 8:30 AM on Monday.
Locals spotted smoke and flames rising from the residence of Santosh Mali and immediately called emergency services through 112. The fire began spreading rapidly toward nearby houses and clothing shops in the main market area.
Raighar Fire Officer Gupteswar Das and his team, including Pavitra Mohan Pujari, Debachan Mahanand, Naveen Nayak, Dilip Kumar Sabar, Trilochan Pujari, and Debapriya Pradhan, reached the spot without delay. They entered the burning house and began dousing the flames with water.
Thick smoke and intense heat made the operation difficult. However, the fire brigade team managed to control the blaze before it engulfed adjacent buildings. Their swift action saved several homes and shops from destruction.
The fire created panic in the busy market zone. Residents and shopkeepers rushed to safety while firefighters worked to contain the flames. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Officials praised the fire team’s bravery and coordination. No casualties were reported. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source of the fire.
