Cuttack: A married couple jumped off Jobra barrage into Mahanadi river on Friday evening over a suspected family feud. They were identified as Swagatika (27) and her husband Rajesh Sahoo.
Reportedly, some locals and fire services personnel rescued the duo and admitted them to SCB Medical College and Hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable now.
According to sources, the woman first jumped off the barrage into the river and her husband, in a bid to save her, the man also jumped into the river.
Some passersby, who witnessed the incident, raised an alarm and the rescue team swung into action. They managed to rescue both, sources said.
However, the actual reason behind the woman’s drastic step to commit suicide is yet to be ascertained. The matter would come to the fore after a police investigation, sources added.
