Police arrested a man for allegedly strangling his wife in Sergiguda village under Bijepur police station in Kalahandi district.
The accused, Phulsing Majhi (59), lived with his wife Butri Majhi (55) in a remote house near farmland. They had five daughters and two sons. Four daughters were married and lived elsewhere.
On Monday night, Phulsing allegedly strangled Butri during a domestic dispute. He fled the scene immediately after the incident.
On Tuesday morning, Butri’s brother Banang Majhi from Karabali village filed a written complaint at Bijepur police station.
Inspector Nilambar Jani led a police team to the crime scene. Officers recovered the body and sent it to Lanjigarh for postmortem.
Due to delays, the autopsy took place on Wednesday. Police handed over the body to the family after the procedure.
On Wednesday, police received a tip about Phulsing hiding in Kendupeta village. Officers tracked him down and arrested him.
During interrogation, Phulsing confessed to strangling his wife. Police registered the case as Bijepur PS Case No. 28/25.
Authorities produced the accused in court on Wednesday. Inspector Jani confirmed the arrest and court proceedings.
